How It Happened
In the regular season finale, the Lady Barons make the trip to Waynesburg and fall to the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Sophie LaRose has a career night, as she records her first double double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
After Waynesburg scored the first four points of the game, Selena Coronis would snap the run and give the Lady Barons their first bucket of the night. Waynesburg would score the next six points to stretch their lead up to eight points at 10-2. Clare McGahan would make her first three pointer of the night, and Sophie LaRose added a layup to help tighten the gap. Victoria Unnerstall would join the scoring as she made a strong driving layup as well. McGahan would add her second triple of the quarter, as the Lady Barons would head to the second quarter trailing by six.
Clare McGahan and Natalie Conner added quick buckets to start the second quarter, and just like that the gap was cut to only two points. A 7-0 Waynesburg run would ensue to stretch their lead back up to nine points. Sophie LaRose would snap the run, by adding her first three pointer of the night. The Yellow Jackets would go on a run again, as they would score six in a row, before Ashley Benson would connect on a pair of free throws. LaRose would add four straight points for the Lady Barons, but the Yellow Jackets successfully stretched their lead to 43-28 at the break.
Both teams would come out of the break cold, as only six points were scored, combined by both teams in the first three and a half minutes of the third. Ashley Benson would add her first made three pointer of the night, as she would cut the lead to twelve points with just over six minutes to play. Selena Coronis would help tighten it up more as she would go on a personal five point run to cut the lead to single digits. A 7-3 run by the Yellow Jackets to end the quarter would give them a twelve point edge heading into the final quarter.
McGahan would add another three pointer in the fourth quarter, but unfortunately the Yellow Jackets heated up. They would go on to outscore the Lady Barons 19-10 in the quarter, as they would take home their second win of the season 75-53.
