How It HappenedÂ
The Franciscan Barons Women's Soccer team battled to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Washington & Jefferson to a scoreless double overtime draw.Â
The first half was played mostly in the middle of the field, with neither team able to build consistent offense to create scoring chances. The Barons senior defensive back line held Washington & Jefferson to just one shot in the first half. The Barons would get pressure in the 34th minute, with Juliana Rubino and Kaitrin O'Leary each putting shots on goal, but they were both saved. In the 37th minute, Claire Dawyot created space in the box, launching a shot that missed just wide left. Isabella Squire fired the Barons final shot of the half, but that too was saved.
Washington & Jefferson came out strong to start the second half, immediately creating more scoring opportunities. The Presidents took 11 shots, eight on goal but Franciscan Goalkeeper Marita Ostrich made eight saves, keeping the game scoreless. Neither team could find a goal in regulation, sending the game to overtime.Â
Neither team could create much offense in the first overtime, with Kaitlyn Martuch taking the Barons only shot. In the second overtime Squire would take a shot missing high off a corner kick. In the 108th minute Bella Rubino and Juliana Rubino each took shots, unable to find the back of the net. The Presidents would get one final scoring chance, but Ostrich made a key save in the 105th minute sending the game to a 0-0 draw.  Â
