Franciscan 5, Washington & Jefferson 4
Washington, Pa. - Franciscan University faced there toughest test thus far, as they squeaked out a 5-4 win on the road at Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday night.Â
Doubles
The #2 doubles team of
Haley Davinsizer and
Zoey Stapleton would win in straight sets 8-0, to win the first point for the Lady Barons.
Maria Herrera and
Ana Victoria Haddad would battle out a tough win in #1 doubles, by a score of 8-4. The #3 doubles team of
Caroline Picard and
Susan Schuberg, would pair up for the first time this season in a loss, 8-7.Â
Singles
With a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, the score would be tied back up at 2-2, after
Maria Herrera suffered her first loss at #1 singles.
Zoey Stapleton would help Franciscan retake the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles. Washington and Jefferson would answer with an equalizer in #6 singles, as
Susan Schuberg would fall.Â
Haley Davinsizer would then close out #4 singles with a tough fought win, 7-5, 6-1, to give Franciscan the 4-3 edge. In #2 singles
Ana Victoria Haddad would win the first set 6-4, but then fall 0-6 in set two. She would then battle hard in the tiebreaker, but fall 10-8. That would tie it all up at 4-4, with #5 singles left to finish.
Caroline Picard lost set one 4-6, then rallied to win set two 6-4. With the match on the line she pulled out a clutch 10-7 win in the deciding tiebreaker to keep the Lady Barons undefeated in PAC play.Â
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will return to action on the road tomorrow, as they travel to Saint Vincent. The Lady Barons are 4-0 all-time against the Bearcats, but the two team have not squared off since 2017.Â
