Softball Sweeps Waynesburg on Senior Day

How It Happened
The Franciscan Softball team swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg, rallying to win game one by a score of 7-6. Before the game, the Barons took a few moments to honor senior players Allyson Weiss and Andi Queen for all their contributions to the program.

Franciscan got off to a slow start, allowing one run in the first and fourth inning. Starting pitcher Andi Queen allow just seven hits in 5.0 innings of action, while recording four strikeouts. Waynesburg capitalized on a error and a pair of wild pitches in the sixth inning to build their lead to six.

The Barons bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chloe Cross led off the inning with a single to center field and Jenny Massey followed with a single of her own to put on runners on base. Andi Queen would then single to right field, but the Yellow Jackets were able to throw Cross out at home. The Barons would work the bases loaded thank to hits from Lilly Wahl and Brooklynn Miller and then with two outs, Elizabeth Gibson blasted a single to the shortstop, allowing Andi Queen to score. Emma Barnes then came through for the Barons with a single of her own, scoring Wahl and pulling the Barons back within four runs. Ashley Benson rocketed a ball over the right fielders head driving in Miller and Gibson, making the score 6-4. Allyson Weiss kept the rally going with a double of her own, scoring Benson and Barnes and tying the game at six. Cross who led off the inning would put the Barons on top with her second single of the inning, scoring Weiss. 

Wahl who had came on in relief of Queen allowed a lead off single in the seventh, but then closed out the victory recording three straight outs to give Franciscan the 7-6 win. 

At the Plate
- Allyson Weiss went 2-4 with two doubles, driving in a pair of RBIs and scoring a run
- Ashley Benson smashed a double in the sixth inning, driving in a pair of runs
- Chloe Cross recorded a pair of singles in the sixth inning, the second of which drove in the go ahead run
- Jenny Massey went 2-4 collecting two singles
- Elizabeth Gibson and Emma Barnes each recorded two singles and drove in RBI
- Brooklynn Miller went 2-3 and scored a run
- As a team the Barons recorded 15 hits

Inside the Circle
- Andi Queen pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four
- Lilly Wahl earned the win in relief, pitching the final two innings allowing two runs on three hits while adding three strikeouts

How It Happened
After winning game one, Franciscan reset for their game two matchup with the Yellow Jackets. 

Waynesburg would plate a run in the top of the first inning, but the Barons had an immediate response. Allyson Weiss would smash the second pitch she saw over the center field fence, recording her 17th career homerun. Waynesburg would answer back scoring two runs in the second inning and one more in the third inning to build a 4-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets forced game two starter Lilly Wahl from the game having given up three runs on six hits. 

Andi Queen came on in relief, shutting the Yellow Jackets offense down. Queen would pitch the final five innings, allowing one run on four hits. The Barons began to chip away at Waynesburg lead in the fourth inning. Queen started the rally by drawing a walk. Wahl would the reach base on error, putting runners on first and second. Brooklynn Miller then smacked a ball over the left fielders head, doubling and driving in Queen. Elizabeth Gibson then hit a hard ground ball allowing Lilly Wahl to score, pulling the Barons back with one. 

Trailing by on entering the sixth inning, Franciscan's offense would again come through. Gibson led off with a single to left field. Ashley Benson singled to left field, putting runners on first and second. Weiss would then load the bases with a single of her own. Jenny Massey then smacked a single into right field scoring Gibson and Benson to put the Barons ahead 5-4. Queen would close the door in the circle, drawing three quick outs to secure the sweep. 
 
At the Plate
- Allyson Weiss went 2-4, smashing a solo homerun in the first inning
- Jenny Massey went 2-4 driving in the tying and go ahead runs in the sixth inning
- Ashley Benson was 2-3, scoring a run 
- Elizabeth Gibson collected a pair of hits and scoring a run
- Brooklynn Miller was 1-3 with a 2 RBI double
  
Inside the Circle
- Lilly Wahl pitched 2.0 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits
- Andi Queen got the win in relief, pitching 5.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits

Up Next
Franciscan will travel to face Westminster on Sunday May 2. The Baron fell twice to the Titans earlier this season.
