Franciscan 6, Grove City 3
Grove City, Pa. - The Franciscan Women's Tennis team extended their winning streak up to six in a row and improved their PAC record to 3-0 with a win over Grove City on Friday evening.Â
Doubles
The Lady Barons took their 6-game win streak and hoped to make it seven against a tough PAC opponent in Grove City. The Barons swept doubles play, starting with #1 pairing of
Maria Herrera and
Olivia Colby going against Grove City's Fuss and Ivory. The other Franciscan pairings for the night were
Zoey Stapleton and
Haley Davinsizer at the #2, and
Caroline Picard and
Laina Anderson rounding out the Lady Barons doubles pairings as the #3's. Going into Singles play Franciscan led Grove City 3-0.
Singles
Franciscan has found a lot of success in their Singles line-up and opted to stick with what was working today.
Maria Herrera finished her #1 pairing match first beating her opponent Chappel in two sets, and putting the Lady Barons one point away from clinching victory.
Laina Anderson defeated her opponent, winning the 5th point and match winning point for the Lady Barons. As the #4 hitter,
Caroline Picard lost to her opponent McCavy. The senior
Zoey Stapleton fell short of her opponent Ivory as the #3 hitter. #2 hitter
Olivia Colby added the last point for Franciscan on the day. To finish Singles play, the #5 hitter for Grove City forced a tie-breaker against
Haley Davinsizer. Davinsizer was unable to win the tie-breaker and saw a rare defeat.Â
Who's Next?Â
The Lady Barons will return to action on the road at Geneva on Wednesday night. Franciscan holds the edge in the all-time series record at 2-1 in the previous three matchups. Last season, in their first matchup as conference foes, the Lady Barons won 9-0 in Beaver Falls.
Maria Herrera had a very impressive day in the victory, as she team up with now, Assistant Coach
Ana Victoria Haddad for an 8-0 victory in #1 doubles. She then followed that up with a straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 win in #1 singles. The Lady Barons hope to keep up that success on Wednesday against an improved Golden Tornado lineup.Â
