How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Volleyball hosted Allegheny for the first time since since 2013 and the first time that it would be a conference matchup on Thursday night. The Gators came into today's action unbeaten in PAC play, and the Barons gave them all they could handle in a tough four set match.
The Barons came out a little flat, as the top-ranked Gators looked very dominant in the first set. The Gators jumped out to an early 7-1 edge, but the Barons would battle back to pull to within one at 9-8. Allegheny would then go on an 11-1 run to ice the first set and win 25-13.
The Gators kept up the momentum with an early 3-1 edge in set two. The Barons though would respond in a hurry with a 7-0 run that included three aces from Gabrielle Disselkamp. The Barons would be the first to 15 at 15-12 with Rani Hebert beginning to take over with a kill and ace. Everyone would chip in and make a big play to keep the lead at 19-17. Franciscan would then put together a run of six unanswered to win the set 25-17.
The Barons kept up the strong play in set three by jumping out to a 5-2 lead. Then the set would be pretty back and forth until the score was at 17-17. The Barons would go on a 4-1 run, including an ace from Antonelli. The Gators then rallied with an 6-0 run to set the score at 24-21, as they would close the set out at 25-22.
Back and forth play remained in set four, as the score would be 9-9. The Gators would grab a hold of this set with a 6-1 that set the score at 15-10. Allegheny would stretch that lead up to seven points at 20-13. The Barons would not quit, as a 5-0 run would get them back in this one. Gracie Francis had two big kills out of the middle. After one Gator point, the Barons would rally again with a 5-1 run to take a lead at 23-22. The Gators would step up big with a 3-0 run to close out the set and match.

Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will look to bounce back with a win at Waynesburg on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Barons were able to sweep the Yellow Jackets in a non-conference match earlier this season, as they are now 12-2 all-time against them. Disselkamp and Luebbers each had stellar days in the win with 14 and 13 kills each. Waynesburg is on a bit of a skid now, as they are still searching for there first PAC win of the season.
