How It Happened

The Barons would win the opening two sets before dropping the third set. They responded well in the fourth with a win to send the Wolverines home unhappy. The Wolverines looked to be in control of the first set, as they jumped out to an early 10-6 edge. The Barons were able to cut it to a one point game with a 3-0 run that included a pair of kills from Disselkamp. A 5-1 Grove City run would reset the match back to Grove City's favor as they held a 15-10 edge. Franciscan would tighten it up slightly at 17-13 before going on their longest run of the season, by scoring ten unanswered. Meghan Hickey would serve nine straight points, including two aces to give Franciscan a 23-17 lead. Disslekamp would close the game out with a kill to take the first by a score of 25-20.
Set two was much more of a back and forth start, as it would be all tied up at six. The Barons would then score four unanswered with three kills from Renee Antonelli. The Barons would maintain a three or four point lead for most of the set, as Disselkamp would get a handful of kills in this set as well. They would be serving with a 22-20 lead, and then Disselkamp would take over with three kills on a Franciscan 5-1 run to take the second set.
The Wolverines tightened up their substitution rotation in set three, and they would dominate this set. They would be the first to fifteen points at 15-6. The built their lead up to thirteen points at 23-10, but the Barons would not quit. A 5-0 run on Hickey's serve would give the Barons some positive moments to build on, as they headed to the fourth set.
Franciscan carried that momentum over, as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The Wolverines would be forced to call early timeouts, which seemed to work, as they would get back into this set at 10-7. A Franciscan 6-0 run would give the Barons total control of this set with a 16-7 lead. The Wolverines would be able to pull within five points at 22-17, but the Barons ended the match with a 3-0 run to finish off the Wolverines.
