Wilmington, Del. - National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) released the Men's Small College Top 20 Coaches Poll on Wednesday afternoon. The Franciscan Men's Rugby team has been ranked all season, as they are now #20 in the nation.
Â
The Barons dropped in the standings after their loss to #9 Slippery Rock in their last time out on the pitch. Their final match of the season at Denison was forfeited to give Franciscan the win. The Barons now are preparing for postseason play, as the First Round of the Allegheny Rugby Union (ARU) Playoffs is this Saturday. Franciscan will travel to #15 John Carroll on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. They won the ARU West with an undefeated record to earn the home match in the first round.Â
These two teams played each other twice last season, once in 15s and 7s. In the fall, they came to Steubenville where Franciscan would win the 15s match by a score of 31-7. They then played a 7s match in New Orleans that John Carroll won 12-5. The winner of Saturday's matchup will play #9 Slippery Rock next Saturday, November 5th in the ARU Championship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.Â
