How It Happened
Franciscan concluded their busy, three game week on Saturday at Saint Vincent. Jazzlyn Melnyk led the way for the Lady Barons with 16 points, but a big Bearcats second half propelled them to the win.

Lauren Arena, Jazzlyn Melnyk and Kimberly McDaniels each made their first bucket of the day in the first few minutes to help Franciscan build a 6-2 lead. Felicia MacGillivray got on the board with her first three pointer of the day to stretch the lead to 12-7. After the Bearcats regained the lead, Franciscan would battle back with Melnyk and McDaniels adding some timely makes. A couple late free throws would give the Bearcats a 17-16 lead heading into the second quarter.

Madison Doan would score her first three points of the day in the early goings of the second quarter, but the both offenses would struggle this quarter. Saint Vincent slowly stretched their lead up to 12 points at 31-19 with five minutes to play in the half. Franciscan's defense would hold Saint Vincent scoreless for the final five minutes while adding six points of their own to trail 31-25 at the half.

Franciscan came out hot in the second half, as Madison Doan made two jumpers, and Jazzlyn Melnyk made a three pointer to tie us back up at 32-32. Doan and Melnyk would be the only Franciscan scorers of the quarter, but they would hold close to Saint Vincent until late in the quarter. A 6-0 run to close the quarter would give the Bearcats a 45-36 lead heading into the fourth.

The Bearcats would continue their run, as Franciscan was held scoreless for nearly the first four minutes of the final quarter. Lauren Arena snapped the drought by making a free throw, and then Jazzlyn Melnyk scored her final bucket of the day on a strong layup. Felicia MacGillivray and Ilena Gonzales would each make buckets down the stretch, but the Bearcats would hold on to win.
