Robbins Wins Match for Men's Tennis

Franciscan 5, St. Vincent 4

Wheeling, W.Va. - With rain and snow on the forecast, the Men's Tennis team hosted Saint Vincent for a PAC matchup in Wheeling at the Indoor Tennis Center.

Doubles

The Barons returned to their strong doubles play. The doubles pairings were the usual teams with #1's Gary Pierre and Travis Mistry, #2's Josh Robbins and Aidan Howard, and #3's Billy Presume and Leo Morella. After doubles play the Barons were leading the team match 3-0.

Singles
Singles play got off to a slow start for the Barons. Travis MIstry got the Barons their 4th point after quickly dispatching his opponent with a straight second set. After Mistry the Barons dropped four matches in a row. #1 Gary Pierre, #3 Billy Presume, #5 Aidan Howard, and #6 Leo Morella. This left the #4 matchup of Josh Robbins and Bearcat's Sadusky. Robbins lost the first set 3-6, then came back with a vengeance winning the second set 6-1 and forcing the third tiebreak set. In the 3rd set Robbins just got passed Sadusky. Robbins found success by getting aggressive and looking to go to both his forehand and backhand. Mixing up his shots kept his opponent on his heels. That was just the edge that Robbins and the Barons needed. Robbins won the third set 10-8. Josh Robbin's 10th point was a game/point/match/team match victory shot.
With that win, the Barons move to 2-1 in conference play.

Who's Next?
The Barons will return to Steubenville for a matchup against Geneva on Tuesday afternoon. It wil be Senior Day for the Barons, as they honor, Gary Pierre, Billy Presume, and Josh Robbins, for their years of commitment to the program. Senior festivities will occur pregame with the match to start at 2 pm. Live stats and streaming will be available to those who cannot make it in person at the Belleview Courts.
