Steubenville, Ohio - Franciscan men's tennis began its fall portion of the 2026-27 season hosting NCAA Division II school Kutztown University Saturday afternoon on Homecoming weekend. After three doubles matches and six singles, the visitors won by a score of 6-1.
Doubles
At #1,
Aaron Heinlein and
Christopher Yvars played, falling to Kutztown by a score of 6-2.
Will Howell and
Owen Blattel played in the second spot, taking four sets before falling short of the win. At spot #3,
Esteban Webber-Bernal and
Elijah Clink played together, with a 6-3 decision going in favor of the guests.
Singles
Facing a 1-0 series deficit, the Barons needed to win at least four singles matches. Heinlein was up first, dropping two sets by a score of 6-1 each time. Yvars was next, who recorded three set wins before dropping 6-3 in set two after already losing set one. Clink was put in the #3 spot and Howell was #4, however, both dropped their matches in two sets. Blattel made his collegiate debut in both singles and doubles today (as did Howell and Blattel), and he played in the #5 spot in singles.
Alex Burns played in a Baron uniform for the first time today, and he recorded a win for the hosts, getting the victory in three sets. Burns fell behind in set one 6-4, but won 7-5 and 6-3 the next two sets to get a win for Franciscan.
Next Up
Franciscan will resume play Saturday, October 10 with an 11:30 AM match at Baldwin Wallace University.
