Franciscan 9, Washington & Jefferson 0
STEUBENVILLE, OHIO -Â Franciscan Women's Tennis go on the road to take down the Presidents in 9-0 fashion.
Doubles
The first term of tonight's contest started with doubles play. The Barons leading doubles pair of Herrera and Colby gave up one game, but rallied back for an 8-1 win.
Haley Davinsizer and
Estelle Leon defeated their opponents in the #2 slot 8-5. Lastly the freshmen duo of
Kina Ehlers and
Claire Cardie had a straight sweep in #3 doubles play. The pair have a great chemistry early in their careers. After good shots the two meet on court and go through a carefully mastered handshake sequence. I imagine a straight set winning performance entails a lot of time of high-fiving, back-fiving, dapping, and fist-bumping. For good measure
Margaret Vernau and
Veronica Saunders teamed up and added an unofficial 10th point in a JV doubles match. Those two freshmen defeated their opponents 8-1.
Singles
The Baron's singles lineup was similar to the last couple matches; Herrera, Ehlers, Colby, Cardie, Davinsizer, and Leon. All six singles players won their matches, Leon winning in straight sets. Cardie had a small hiccup in the second set and went into a tiebreak set. Yellow Jackets' Kennedy was tough competition for Cardie. The two faced in doubles, but in singles Kennedy was locked in and gave Cardie much more trouble then earlier in the evening.
Kina Ehlers, continuing to play up in the #2 singles spot, only dropped a single game in her two sets.Â
Next Up
Franciscan will be off till next Tuesday when the travel to Waynesburg for a conference battle against the Yellow Jackets. The Barons are 2-0 all-time against the Yellow Jackets with a pair of 9-0 wins over in matchups over the last two seasons.Â
