Matchup Preview: Men’s Rugby vs. Clarion University

After an exciting preseason, the Franciscan Barons look to play their first game on the pitch this Saturday, September 24th at home against the Clarion Golden Eagles. In the preseason, the Barons faced two tough opponents, the University of Pittsburgh (DI-AA) and West Virginia University (DII). Despite many challenges, the Barons won both matches, ending the preseason with a pristine 2-0 record. Their first match of the season ended in a win with Frostburg State forfeiting. This upcoming match, versus Clarion University, will be the their first taste of action. The Barons have dominated the Golden Eagles in the past, posting a 6-0 record against them all time. They will look to continue this undefeated streak. Looking ahead, the Barons hope to use this game as an example moving forward. While head coach Jason Adams was excited about the Baron's strong preseason play, he said that the team still needs to work hard for the regular season. Coach Adams emphasized the importance of defense and team play. While the Barons have stars like NCR All-American John Thibault, the team strategy has always been about involving other players. With the combination of returning veterans and exciting new talent, the Barons hope to make a statement in the Allegheny Rugby Union.
