How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Volleyball got back into the win column on Tuesday night with a straight sets win over Waynesburg in a non-conference matchup. Gabrielle Disselkamp and Elizabeth Luebbers each had season-highs for kills to help lead the Barons to a win which sets their season record above .500 once again at 6-5.
A back and forth start to set one left us with a score of 4-4 with Disselkamp picking up two kills right off the bat. Franciscan would hold the lead at 10-8 before a Franciscan 4-0 run would help them start to pull away. Disselkamp had a kill and an ace in that run. Later in the set Sara Moore would serve for a 7-0 run that included three kills from Elizabeth Luebbers. The Barons would close out the set on another 4-0 run with two kills from Rani Hebert.Â
The Barons jumped out to a 7-2 lead in set two with the freshman duo carrying the offensive lead once more. Disselkamp had a pair of kills while Luebbers had three in the first seven points. The Yellow Jackets would answer though, as they managed to tie this one up at 10-10. The Barons would regather control with a 6-1 run to give them a five point lead. Disselkamp and Luebbers would combine for 12 kills in this set, as Franciscan would maintain control to win 25-23.
The Barons would have early success once again in set three, as a pair of Antonelli kills helped the Barons claim a 5-2 lead. Hebert added a pair of kills as well to help stretch the lead to 7-4. Once again the pesty Yellow Jackets would not go away, as they would pull to within one point at 9-8. Luebbers would step up once again for Franciscan with four kills over their next seven points to re-establish a stronger lead. Franciscan seemed to be in total control, but then the Yellow Jackets would go on a run to pull within two points at 24-22. Renee Antonelli would add the last point with a kill to secure the match.
