Rugby Hosting First Ever Ruckus On Campus

Steubenville, Ohio

For the first time ever, the Barons will host the Rugby Ruckus on campus this Saturday, October 1. The match, versus the Fredonia Blue Devils, is the lone varsity competition on campus during Homecoming weekend. Last week, the Barons soared over the Clarion Golden Eagles with a monstrous 72-7 victory. To start the season, they have smashed through the competition, winning both preseason games and currently sitting at a 2-0 record.

But the hardest obstacles are still to come. Head coach Jason Adams said that the team tried to force the offense at the start of the game. Once players let plays come naturally, points came in fistfuls. Fixing mechanical errors and reducing turnovers will improve the team even more. Coach Adams described each game as a process. As young players gain more experience on the pitch, vets can focus on their play. The Barons have made their intentions clear: they aren't here to just win a few games, they are in it for the long run. This is a team that is armed and ready for a deep run in the playoffs, and potentially, a championship. But it all needs to happen one game at a time.

Their next match will be a special occasion. The Rugby Ruckus is an annual ceremony to kick off the Baron's season, and this is the first time ever it will be hosted on campus. Students, parents, and alumni will all be at Franciscan University for Homecoming weekend, so come celebrate a Franciscan tradition this Saturday!
