How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball hosted Grove City on Wednesday night at Finnegan Fieldhouse. The Barons gave them nearly all they could handle, as a close-fought battle would ensue.
The Barons struck first, as Madison Doan wasted little time to make an impact in her first game at home since December 17th. Melnyk would then make a three pointer before Doan added another bucket to set the score at 7-7. The score would be 9-9 before Grove City would end the opening quarter on a 9-0 run over the final three minutes.
Giuliana Biasutto would be the spark the Barons needed to start the second quarter. She made back to back three pointers to tighten this one up a little. She would go on to score 10 of her 12 points on the night in the second quarter. The Wolverines would prove to be tough to stop though, as they seemed to answer every time Franciscan got it going. They would take a 36-25 lead into the half.
An 8-0 Wolverine run to open the second half was not what Franciscan was looking for to start, but they would respond. The Barons battled back with an 11-3 run over the final three minutes of the quarter to keep the game within reach at 53-41. The Barons would give it their all in the fourth, as they would beat the Wolverines over the final ten minutes. The Barons put up 30 points in the quarter, the most in any quarter all season. MacGillivray and Doan were steady, but the Wolverines would continue to answer each bucket with one of their own. Emma Clow connected on a pair of three pointers in the final minute, as the Barons fell by a score of 82-71.

Up Next
Franciscan will remain at home to take on Geneva on Saturday at 2pm. The Barons are looking to flip the script from their matchup with the Golden Tornadoes earlier this season. In that game in December, Melnyk led the way with a double double, as she scored 15 point and pulled in 14 rebounds.
