Franciscan 8, Westminster 1
Doubles
   At #1 doubles,Â
Maria Herrera andÂ
Olivia Colby remained perfect in PAC play with an 8-3 win to finish first.
Jordan Beltavski and
Delaney Dawson would make it 2-0 Barons with an 8-6 come from behind win at #3 doubles. That would leave the #2 doubles match with
Claire Cardie and
Veronica Saunders battling for Franciscan. They would clutch up to tie it up at 7-7 and force a tiebreaker. They kept that positive momentum going to win the tiebreaker by a score of 7-2 to win the third point for Franciscan with an 8-7 win at #2 doubles.Â
Singles
Maria Herrera kept up the strong play in singles, as she won in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 to earn the fourth team point for Franciscan.
Margaret Vernau would be next to finish, as she fell at #5 singles to set the score at 4-1.
Jordan Beltavski would come through at #4 singles to win the decisive fifth point and ensure a Baron win.
Claire Cardie would also win in straight sets shortly after as well.
Next to finish would be
Olivia Colby in a nail-biter. She won the first set 6-3, but she would have to battle back and force a tiebreaker in the second set. In that tiebreaker she trailed 5-3, but then rallied four straight points to win that and take the match in straight sets. That would leave #6 singles where
Lauren Schoenberger would win the first set but drop the second. She then gutted out the third set tiebreaker to give the Barons a commanding 8-1 win.
With the win the Barons clinch the #3 seed. That means they will host a PAC Quarterfinal on Next Tuesday October 17th at Belleview Courts.Â
Next Up
