How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Volleyball made the trip to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night to take on Chatham for the first time this season. The Cougars came into this match with nine wins in their last ten matches. The host was able to keep up their recent successes as they beat the Barons in three sets.Â
Grace Wallace and
Mary Jean Cadman had a pair of kills to help the Barons set the score at 10-10 to start out the first set. The Barons had kept the Chatham offense pretty quiet, but they would find their rhythm to go on several small runs and take the first set. Franciscan opened up the second set with a 5-3 lead. A 4-0 Chatham run would give the Cougars the lead back at 5-7, and they would not relinquish it. Cadman added a couple of more kills this set, but a 9-1 run would end this set in Chatham's favor. The Cougars would be the first to 15 at 15-12 in the second set. The Cougars would expand the lead at 21-14, but the Barons kept fighting. A 7-2 Franciscan run would cut it to three and get Chatham's attention. That would be as close as the Barons would get, as the Cougars closed out the deciding set.Â
