How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball made the trip to Wooster to participate in the Nan Nichols Classic with games on Friday and Saturday. First, they would take on Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), which made the long trip from Chicago.

In the opening quarter, the Barons took advantage in the front court, as they scored 16 of their 24 points in the paint. Nine of their points also came off Scarlet Hawk turnovers, as the Barons would capitalize on their miscues to take control of this game early. Franciscan would lead 24-17 after the opening quarter. The Scarlet Hawks would be able to tighten it up some in the second quarter. They would force 10 turnovers in this quarter and take advantage of them. The Doan sisters would combine for 26 points in the opening half with Mikayla leading the way with 16 on 6-6 shooting. The Barons led 36-33 at the half.

The third quarter would be more dominance by the Barons in the paint. They added five blocks this quarter and expanded upon their rebound advantage. Through thirty minutes, they had 47 rebounds to the Scarlet Hawks 23. The Barons would take a four-point lead into the final quarter. Reedy opened up this quarter with a made three-pointer, and Mikayla Doan added a layup to make it a nine-point lead. It looked like the first win of the year was a guarantee with seven minutes left, but IIT would make a run to cut it to a one-point deficit with a little over a minute to play. Madison Doan would step up with four points in the final minute, while the Baron defense stood tall for the Barons ti win 72-67.

Inside the Numbers
- Mikayla Doan led the way with 25 points. That would be the most points scored by a freshman since her sister, Madison Doan, scored 28 at Thiel.
- Madison Doan went 8-9 (88.9%) from the floor, to set a new program record for field goal percentage in a game
- Madison Doan and Caroline Reedy each recorded their second double-double of the season.
- Maria McCallen tied the program record for blocks in a game with five in her collegiate debut.
- Iliana Spoelman picked up her first win as Head Coach.

Up Next
Franciscan will remain in Wooster, as they take on the host, The College of Wooster. The Barons are 2-5 all-time against the Fighting Scots, including a win last season against them. The Barons won 80-68 last year in a game that was played at Bethany, due to the Finnegan Fieldhouse floor still being finished. Franciscan led by 11 after the opening quarter and did not look back. Four players scored in double figures, and the Barons scored 38 points in the paint.
