How It Happened
Franciscan made the short trip over to Bethany on Wednesday evening to take on the Bison. Head Coach Iliana Spoelman would start with a tall lineup that included five players listed 6'0" or taller, as Maria McCallen would earned her first collegiate start.
The Bison would take the early lead at 15-7 with some sharp shooting from long range, but the Barons front court would dominate the glass to give the Barons more opportunities to come back. The Barons would go on a 7-0 run, as Ilena Gonzlaes scored four of the points off the bench to cut it to a one point margin. That is where the first quarter would end with the Bison leading 17-16.
An early 6-2 run would give the Barons a three point lead just two minutes into the second quarter. Turnovers would start to cost the Barons, as 15 first half turnovers would give the Bison 15 points. The Bison ended the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a six-point advantage into the half.
The Bison would get hot from behind the arc in the third quarter, as they made seven three pointers in the entire first half and matched that in the third quarter. Madison Doan had five of Franciscan's 10 points in the third, but Bethany would be able to grow the lead as we headed to the fourth. The Barons would not quit, as they had their best offensive quarter in final 10 minutes. The Doan sisters would score the first nine Franciscan points in the fourth with eight coming inside the paint. McCallen had four of her eight points on they day in the final minutes, as Bethany would prevail 89-55.
