Franciscan 1, St. Mary's College (IN) 8
The Franciscan Women's Tennis team made the trip to Florida for four non-conference matchups to start their spring schedule. They would play a pair of games on Monday to open up the week.
Doubles
   Doubles pairings- #1's
Maria Herrera and
Olivia Colby, #2's
Claire Cardie and
Kina Ehlers, #3's
Haley Davinsizer and
Delaney Dawson. To start their spring break trip in Florida, the Barons lined up against St. Mary's College. In doubles play the freshmen sensation's duo of Ehlers and Cardie ran into a tough opponent and quickly dropped their match 0-8. The rest of the women didn't fair much better. The #1's lost 2-8 and the #3's lost 2-8 to finished doubles play.
Singles

Maria Herrera defeated in her opponent 6-2 in the first set then finished the match off with a straight second set.
Olivia Colby took her first set 6-0 but lost the match in three sets. The remaining four singles hitters;
Haley Davinsizer,
Kina Ehlers,
Claire Cardie, and
Margaret Vernau each lost their singles matches.
Franciscan 3, Transylvania 6
Doubles
   The #1 pairing of
Olivia Colby and
Maria Herrera started the day off by getting the Barons their first point and a temporary lead in their match vs the Pioneers. However, #2's and #3's each lost their matches and the Barons found themselves down 1-2 going into singles play.
Singles

Kina Ehlers at #2 lost a close match to a tiebreaker in the 3rd set.
Olivia Colby hit at the #3 spot lost to her opponent in two sets.
Claire Cardie picked up another point for the Barons after her opponent was forced to retire the match just three points into their first set. Halley Davinsizer (#5) lost in two sets, and freshmen
Margaret Vernau lost in the third set after winning a tiebreaker in the second set. Herrera faced off against the Pioneers' Taylor. She won her match in three sets and remains undefeated in singles play this year.
Next Up
Franciscan will have get back into competition on Wednesday at the USTA Center when they take on Roger Williams. This will be the first matchup between these two schools in women's tennis. The Hawks held an impressive 12-2 record in the fall to earn the #2 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. They would fall to Nichols in the semifinal to end their hopes of an NCAA Tournament birth.Â
