How It Happened
Franciscan baseball made the trip to Geneva on Tuesday afternoon for a PAC doubleheader. Both teams came into today's matchup in search of their first win in conference play this season.Ā

The home team would be able to get on the board in the first off Franciscan starter, Jeremy Sagun. Tapia delivered a two-run double, and Gonzalez drove in a pair on a single to give the Golden Tornadoes a 4-0 lead through one inning. Jacob Watson would leadoff the second inning with a double to right center, but he would be stranded on the base paths with the next three batters recording outs. Head Coach Rick Carver would then go to the bullpen, as Brody Hynes would take the mound. The senior would have a 1-2-3 bottom of the second inning to get this game back on the tracks. The third inning would not be as clean with three first three Golden Tornadoes reaching base. Hynes was able to minimize the damage to just one run and get out of the jam with the Barons trailing by five runs.

Hynes would go on to pitch two more scoreless innings to keep the score at 5-0, as we headed to top of the sixth inning. Peter Falconite would lead off with a double off the Geneva starter, Lemansky. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Stoehr would drive him in on a ground out to the right-side of the infield. That would set the score at 5-1, as we entered the bottom of the sixth. Hynes would toss another scoreless inning to match his career-best with 5.0 innings pitched.Ā

The Barons would tighten it up in the eighth inning. Watson would deliver an RBI single to score Falconite, and Scavnicky would drive in Ferrance to set the score at 5-3. Geneva would add a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the inning to give us a final score of 7-3.
