How It Happened
The Barons went on the road to face PS Beaver for the second time this season. In their first doubleheader meeting the Barons lost 0-8 and 3-11. Today they had a close one that went all 7 innings and the Barons came up short only 2 runs.
At the top of the 1st, Maxwell hit a lead off single. McDaniels followed her with another single. Then later in the order McGovern reached base off an error, but her hit sent Maxwell home to score, and the Barons took the lead. During Stephenson's at bat, PS Beaver had a wild pitch that let McGovern steal second and McDaniels stole home to extend the lead to two. Beaver followed this up with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st and tie the game up heading into the 2nd.
The 2nd inning was scoreless for both teams. In the top of the the 3rd, McDaniels hit a single then advanced to second off a Beaver error. Arnone followed her up with a double to send McDaniels home. Later in the inning Cedillo put her bat on the ball and made it to first base. Her hit sent Arnone standing on third home and the Barons went up 4-2. This time, they followed their offensive half of the inning up with great defense and forced two routine plays followed by catching a greedy runner going for second base of an infield hit.
The Barons held on to the 4-2 lead until the bottom of the 5th. Beaver put up 4 hits and turned them into 4 runs. Both teams held break for the remainder of the game, and the Barons lost the close one 4-6.

How It Happened
The start of game 2 looked like an extension of game 1. Beaver took an early 1-0 lead, then Franciscan answered in the top of the 2nd off
Madison Doan's bat. She reached off a fielder's choice, but that choice led to an error that allowed Clow to score.
Going into the bottom of the 4th the Barons were down 1-3. After a hit by pitch, stolen base, and an infield single coach McKnight made a change at pitcher putting Arnone in the circle and Cedillo at 3B. With runners on first and third the hope was to get out of the inning with minimal damage and the game still in reach. An untimely error negated those efforts and Beaver found some momentum scoring 4 runs and extending their lead to 7-1. Franciscan answered back with 2 hits from McDaniels and Arnone, and 2 runs.
Beaver continued their offensive momentum from the 4th into the 5th and scored 2 more runs. Now 9-3, the Barons were in desperate need of perfect defense and some runs. In the top of the 6th, they registered 0 hits, then Beaver put 2 more runs on the board to extend their lead to 8 and close out the game.

Franciscan get back into conference play on Monday, as they make the short trip to Bethany. The Barons are looking to snap their streak of four consecutive losses to the Bison, as their last win came in 2021. That win came on the road by a score of 1-0.
Ariana Arnone drove in
Jenny Massey in the fourth inning, as that would hold up to be the winning run in the seven inning, pitching duel.
