How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Volleyball traveled to La Roche to play their first game in seven days. The Barons showed some rust in the early sets, as they would take the opening two sets by scored of 25-13 and 25-19.
In the third set, the Barons opened up on a 5-0 run that included two aces from
Cassidy McCollum. The lead would climb up to a six point margin at 10-4 with Disselkamp getting a pair of kills and an ace. That would lead to a La Roche timeout. That would not ice the Barons as the McCollum remained strong to lead the offensive attack. She added two more kills to stretch the lead to 15-9. Disselkamp add three more kills as well in the final six points to give Franciscan the third set by a score of 25-18.
In the fourth, the Redhawks would take the early lead by a score of 7-3. That would trigger an early timeout from Head Coach
Sean Cleary. Franciscan answered with a 5-0 run that had a kill from
Mary Jean Cadman. The Barons would continue to build the lead, as an ace from Hebert would give Franciscan a 15-12 lead. La Roche would answer though to tie this set back up at 18-18. Hebert would help lead the Barons on their largest run of the day, as she had three kills on a 7-0 run to take the fourth set and tie it up at two sets apiece.
In the fifth and final set, the Redhawks had the early momentum with a 2-0 lead. The Barons would answer to tie it back up at 6-6. La Roche would then take control, as they built the lead up to 11-8. A 6-1 Franciscan run though would change the script of this set to put Franciscan at match point at 14-12 with the final set going to 15 points. Unfortunately the Barons would score no more and a 4-0 run from the Redhawks would end this thrilling 5-setter with the home team winning tonight.
