Franciscan 7, Capital 2
STEUBENVILLE, OHIO -Â Franciscan Women's Tennis
Doubles
Franciscan Doubles are historically the strength of the team. Today, Doubles play did not disappoint. The Barons pairs only dropped a total of 8 games to win 8-2, 8-3, and 8-3 and sweep the first segment of the team match.Â
Singles
Capital had much more of a fight in Singles play. They managed to take two matches from the Barons and gave hitters
Olivia Colby and
Jordan Beltavski a run for their money. Both Colby and Beltavski defeated their Comet opponents. Unknown to anyone on the team prior to the match, the shining story of the day was top hitter
Maria Herrera. Herrera finished business as always winning in two sets and only dropping three games, but after the match the team was informed that her win today gave her the most Singles wins in Franciscan History with 44.
Next Up
Franciscan will hit the road, as they continue PAC play next week at Allegheny. This will be a rematch of the PAC Championship from a season ago which saw the Gators take home the title. Franciscan fell by a score of 5-4 in the Championship and 6-3 in their regular season matchup last season, as they are ins search of their first win all-time against their newest conference foe.Â
