How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball hosted Geneva on Wednesday evening at Finnegan Fieldhouse for a PAC Conference matchup. The Golden Tornadoes entered this one in a three way tie for the sixth and final PAC playoff spot, and the Barons on the outside looking in but were coming off of a program record setting scoring performance against Thiel on Saturday.
The Barons would have some of that momentum carry over into this one, as they would control the lead for the majority of the first quarter. Caroline Reedy led the Barons with five points, and six different Barons would score in the opening quarter. In the final seconds, Geneva would make a layup to tie it up at 19-19 after ten minutes of play. The Golden Tornadoes would make their move in the second quarter, as there press and energy would be draining. They would be able to take a 19-point lead into the half.
The Barons would get their offense going again in the second half. They would score 19 points in the third quarter with a balanced offensive attack. The Barons would continue to fight hard till the end, as they would score 25 points in the final quarter to make this one interesting. They would open up the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to chip into the lead. They would get the Golden Tornadoes full attention as they cut it to 15 points with five minutes remaining, but Geneva would hold on to win this one.
