How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball made the short trip south to Waynesburg on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Yellow Jackets. Head Coach Iliana Gonzales would have just seven healthy players dressed for this pivotal conference matchup.
It would not be an ideal start for the Barons, as Maria McCallen would pick up two fouls in the opening two and a half minutes to send her to the bench. With six minutes to play in the first quarter, Mikayla Doan converted one of two free throws to set the score at 6-3 with the Barons trailing. The Yellow Jackets would then go on a 12-0 run to swing the momentum fully in their direction. Emma Clow snapped the streak with an and one bucket to set the score at 18-6 heading into the second quarter.
The Yellow Jackets would bring some full-court pressure in the second quarter, which would lead to a sloppy start to the second quarter. Clow and Gonzales would get the Barons on the board before Waynesburg would go on another big run. A couple of turnovers would spark an 11-0 run from the home team to take a 38-14 lead into the half.
The Barons would get their offense going in the third quarter. Emma Clow picked up five points in this quarter, including her first made three pointer of the day. The Yellow Jackets made a pair of three point field goals this quarter, as they would maintain their 24-point lead, as we went to the fourth quarter. Waynesburg would score the first six points of the final quarter before Redy would get the Barons on the board. Sophie LaRose would score her first points of the day, as she connected on three point field goal with a little over two and a half minutes to play. Maria McCallen would end the game on an impressive run with six points in less than a minute, as the Barons would fall 65-37.

Up Next
Franciscan will return home for the first time since December 16th on Saturday as they host Allegheny. The Barons played the Gators tough in a pair of games last season, but they were unable to pick up a victory. The Gators are one spot ahead of the Barons in the PAC standings, as this is a pivotal matchup for the Barons to climb up in the conference standings.
