Franciscan 1, Allegheny 2
Starting XIÂ
Catherine DeWolf, Elise Doyle, Teaghan Elmore, Elise Winogradoff, Eva Dexter, Anni Winogradoff, Mary Wieszczek, Abigail Parker, Mara O'Leary, Lillian Torbeck, & Goalkeeper - Rebekka DillÂ
How It HappenedÂ
Dexter scored an early goal to put the Barons up 1-0 late in the first half. Despite facing over forty shots in the game including 21 in the first half, the Barons held on to the shutout entering the half and were in a good spot to come home with much needed PAC points.Â
Similar to the Grove City match at home last week, the Barons came out of the half break in a lull and let two quick goals get past them. The Gators continued to unload shots toward the net, but Dill had one of her best games of the season. She recorded 14 saves to help keep the Barons in striking distance.
Elise Doyle had one of the best chances to tie the game. In the 60' they had a corner kick. Doyle collected the ball and found an opening. Her shot sailed slightly high and bounced off the crossbar. There were a few more good looks before time expired, but none that threatened as much as Doyle's opportunity. The Barons fell to the Gators 1-2 and now look for help to make the playoffs. Their road to the postseason starts with a win over Geneva to end the regular season. Then, they rely on the current 6th place team Waynesburg to do no better than 0-1-1 in their final two games.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Dexter's goal is her 13th on the year
-Dill's 14 saves is her second best performance this season
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will have the weekend off from competition, as they return to action on Tuesday at Geneva. The Barons are 6-8-1 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes with a win against them last season. The Barons won that game in Steubenville by a score of 5-0.
Tania Davidson netted a pair of goals while Gabrielle De La Torre, Elise Winnogradoff, and
Juliana Rubino scored one. Geneva is out of PAC Championship Tournament contention, but they will be ready to play spoiler on Tuesday.Â
