How It HappenedÂ
After a pair of massive PAC conference wins, the Barons flipped their focus to a non-conference foe on Thursday evening. Mount Aloysius came to Finnegan Fieldhouse for the first time since 2018. Both teams are off to successful starts in their respective conferences, but the Barons proved their talents with a three-set victory. With the win, the Barons improved to 13-7 on the season and clinched a winning record for the second season in a row.Â
Franciscan's offense came out firing on all cylinders, as they controlled the opening set for most of the way. They ran the lead all the way up to six points at 23-17, but could not finish off the Mounties. They rallied back to tie it up at 24-24.
Gabrielle Disselkamp stepped up big with a pair of kills late, and
Angela Sweeney added the final kill to take the set 27-25. In total, the Barons had 19 kills in the opening set.Â
The Barons continued their hot start in set two.
Julia Brandwein served a pair of aces while the Barons held an early 8-4 lead. The Barons stayed on the attack, as they built their lead up to 24-18. The Mounties did not quit, as they scored five straight before
Grace Wallace recorded the game-winning kill.Â
Franciscan saved their best for last, as they held a .367 attack percentage in the third set with 14 kills. Disselkamp led the way with five in this set, as the Barons dominated from start to finish.
