Franciscan 6, Geneva 1

Steubenville, Ohio - Franciscan Women's Tennis clinched a spot in the 2024 PAC Championship Tournament with a win against Geneva on Monday evening on a cloudy and cool day. This will be the 13th straight season that the Barons have reached postseason play.

Doubles
All three doubles matches would be very close in an exciting start to this conference match. At #2, Olivia Colby and Jordan Beltavski showed a lot of heart. They trailed 5-2 and answered with five straight points to remain unbeaten together. At #3, Veronica Saunders and Lucy Rochat went back and forth in a very close match, as they would pull out a 6-4 win. That secured the 1-0 edge for Franciscan. Claire Cardie and Kina Ehlers held a lead, but the Golden Tornadoes battled back to win.

Singles
Jordan Beltavski would not take long at #3 singles, being the first to finish with a straight sets win. Kina Ehlers would also take care of business in straight sets. Hazel Mistry made a run in the second set but fell at #4. Lauren Schoenberger improved to 3-0 on the season with a dominant win at the #6 spot, as she would secure the fourth point to clinch the team victory.

The Barons then would then add one with wins at #1 and #5. Claire Cardie would win in straight sets while holding off a Geneva run late in the second set. Margaret Vernau would battle hard and come from behind in the second set tiebreaker to win in straight sets.

Next Up
Franciscan will will return to Westminster on Wednesday to finish their match that was started last Tuesday. The Barons trail the Titans 3-1 before it was suspended due to darkness. The Barons will need to win all three unfinished singles matches to pull out the team victory. Claire Cardie is up 1-0 in the third set at #1 singles. Kina Ehlers is up 3-2 in the second set of #2 singles after winning the first set, and Jordan Beltavski won the first set at #3 but is trailing in the second set. A win would climb the Barons up the PAC standings and improve their odds of hosting a PAC Tournament match.
