How It Happened
Franciscan hit the road for the first time in the 2024-25 season on Saturday, as they traveled to Carlow. Melnyk and McCallen each connected on early buckets to trail 4-5 after four minutes of play. The Celtics made a run to take a 10 point edge a 16-6 with three minutes to play in the opening quarter.Melnyk made a late three pointer, and Gonzales made a layup to trail 20-11 heading into the second quarter.
Abbigail Jannuzi took over to start the second quarter with a personal 7-0 run to pull the Barons within one at 20-21 with seven minutes left in the half. The Celtics answered with a 12-0 run to regain a commanding lead. Jannuzi snapped the run with a layup to continue her strong quarter. Carlow added a couple of more buckets to hold a 15-point edge at the break.
McCallen started off hot in the third with six consecutive points for the Barons, and Jannuzi added a three pointer to pull within 10 points. Carlow had another run in them, as a 10-0 run pulled the lead up to 20. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was 54-36. In the fourth, Melnyk made a tough and-one bucket, and then Reedy got going with four consecutive buckets, including a three point field goal. The Barons were able to end the game on a 6-0 run.

Franciscan will begin PAC play at home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when Washington & Jefferson come to Steubenville. The Presidents were picked to finish second in the PAC this season via the Coaches' Preseason Poll, and they are off to a good start this season. They are 2-1 with one win being by a score of 72-67 over #19 Baldwin Wallace.
