How It HappenedÂ
Allegheny made the trip to Steubenville on Saturday morning for Franciscan's 2024 season finale. It was a tall task for the Barons, as the Gators entered the game with a 9-0 record in PAC matches. The sets were close, but the Gators would come out on top in this one.
Disselkamp and Miller picked up their first kills of the match in a Franciscan 3-0 run to start the opening set. The Gators rallied back and took the lead. The score was 12-9, and Franciscan scored five straight to take the lead. Miller, Sweeney, and Cadman all had kills as the Barons offense was firing on all cylinders.
Ava King added a pair of kills late to give Franciscan a 21-20 edge, but then the Gators closed out the set on a 5-2 run with three kills from Bawek, who ended the game with 16 kills.
The second set was very close as well. The score was tied at 10-10, but then the Gators went on a 7-2 run to take a five point lead. They extended that lead up to six points at 22-16 before Franciscan answered with four points in a row. Sweeney had a pair of kills in that run to set the score at 22-20. The Gators added a pair of kills from Pepperman, and then closed out the set 25-21.
Sweeney, Disselkamp, Miller, and King all had kills early in set three to set the score at 6-6. The Gators then went on a 4-0 run to take the lead and not look back. The Barons were able to get most of their seniors on the floor to finish out the match, as the 2024 season came to a close.
