How It Happened
A slow start to game #1 of the MBC Blue Collar Classic ensued, but the Crusaders were able to pull away to close out the first quarter with a score of 18-9 in the first break. Benji Rook went 3-3 from the floor in the opening eight minutes including a pair of three pointers to lead all scorers with 11 points. Rook's day was just getting started, as he scored 14 more points in the second quarter to help the Crusaders expand the lead. They would take a 42-19 lead into halftime. The Crusader shot 52% from the field in the opening half.
Catholic Central's defense continued to give Madonna fits in the second half. The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter thus far, but the Crusaders won it by two minutes to expand the lead. Both teams were able to get most of their players in the game in the fourth, as the Crusaders lead was insurmountable. The Crusaders sealed the deal by holding Madonna to two points in the final frame.
