How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball played in their last away game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Allegheny. The Gators would maintain a lead with a couple of crucial runs in the opening half, and they would shoot over 50% from the field in the second half to deny the Barons a victory. Caroline Reedy would record her third double double of the season for Franciscan.
Scoring was hard to find for both teams to start this one, as it would be tied at 6-6 after eight minutes of play. The Gators would close the first quarter on a 4-1 run to take a three point lead into the second quarter. Their run continued in the opening two minutes, as they would be able to take a 10-point lead after a 7-0 run. Franciscan would answer with a 6-0 run of their own to pull within four points. This game of runs would continue, as the Gators tallied nine points in a row in just over a minute to take a commanding lead once more. Maria McCallen would lead the Barons with eight points at the half, as the Barons would trail 36-22.
Reedy and McCallen would keep the Barons in this one in the third quarter, but the Gators would soon find their stride. An 11-4 run in the final four minutes of the quarter would lead the Gators to expand their lead. Allegheny would heat up in the fourth quarter, as they shot over 60% from the floor in the final ten minutes. The Gators would secure the win to clinch a spot in the PAC Championship Tournament.
