How It HappenedÂ
The first time the Barons and the Pioneers met in 2019, the Barons walked away with the win. Since then, Franciscan has dropped the last three. Saturday afternoon started off as a tight race. Carolyn Cooke and Brooke Biagi led the Barons off in scoring and halfway through the 1st quarter the game was tied. However, as the game progressed the Pioneers found a successful strategy. The mid field play started off strong, but waned as the half dragged on, and the Pioneers slowly built a lead. By halftime it was 14-5 Pioneers. In the third quarter, the Barons stayed close to all-square, but in the fourth quarter the lead swelled to 16.Â
The team has an experienced core of familiar faces that we were happy to see play well, and some exciting new faces. This non-conference schedule is a tough one and this team will be battle hardened heading into conference play.
Inside the NumbersÂ
-Theresa Lyle led the Barons offensive attack with two goals and six shots
-Mary Bohli had six ground balls and led the game with five caused turnovers
-Brooke Biagi had 10 draw controls which breaks the all-time top 10 best gamesÂ
Up Next
Franciscan continues their season on the road at Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. The Barons are 0-2 all-time against the Battling Bishops, but these two teams have not played each other since 2019. Ohio Wesleyan had a winning record last season and are off to a good start this season. They began the 2024 season with a 14-4 win over Allegheny.Â
