Franciscan 5, Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras 4
Doubles
Doubles would not go the way the Barons had hoped.
Travis Mistry and
Samuel Sabol would fall 8-2 at the #1 pairing, and
Christopher Yvars and
Callahan Hecton fell 8-4 at #2. The Roosters would only have five players, so they forfeited #3 doubles to set the score at 2-1.
Singles
Samuel Sabol would pick up the forfeited win at #6 singles, so the score would be 2-2 with five singles matches left.
Travis Mistry would take care of business, 6-0 6-2, at the #1 spot. Then
Aidan Palladino would also win in straight sets to give the Barons a 4-2 lead.
David Bourdelais would then pull off a come from behind win at #5 after dropping the first set 6-2. He rallied to a 6-2 win in the second set and a 10-5 winner in the tiebreaker.
That would give Franciscan the win over the NCAA Division II program. The Barons have played a very tough non-conference slate so far this season, as they hope to take this momentum up north to start conference matches.
Next Up
Franciscan will return to the Ohio Valley and jump right into PAC play. They will travel to Thiel on Friday to take on the Tomcats. The Barons are looking to keep up their recent success against them to get started with a 1-0 mark in the conference.
