How It Happened
Franciscan made the trip down to Marietta in hopes of beating the Pioneers for the first time in program history.
They started off this game well with six goals in a row after one from Marietta in the opening quarter. Joseph James and Gavin Cook would each score two goals in the opening quarter. James would tally his third to start the second quarter before the Pioneers would score four in a row. James would find the back of the net two more times to give him five on the day to give the Barons a four goal lead at the half.
The Pioneers would change goalies at the break, and a defensive battle would ensue for the next 15 minutes. Marietta would net a pair, as the Barons would be able to hold a 9-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. The opposition would find their stride in the final quarter. They netted seven goals while holding the Barons scoreless to take the win.
