How It Happened
The Barons made the trip up north to take on Penn State Shenango in a non-conference doubleheader. With a pair of wins today, Franciscan Head Coach
Rick Carver could join a very-exclusive club on NCAA Head Coaches to win 500 games in their career.
The Lions would take the early lead with a run in each of the first two innings, but the Barons' would get their bats going in the third. They would plate six runs in that frame to take a lead, and give
Andrew Heidemann a lead that he would not relinquish. Coach Carver would go to his closer early, as
Wade Stoehr would come in with just one out in the sixth. He would take care of business to earn his third save of the year while getting the final five outs.
At the Plate
- Peffer had three hits, including his first collegiate home run.
-
John Hall had a pair of hits including a double.
- Armstrong scored a pair of runs.
On the Mound
- Heidemann picked up his fourth win in his last seven appearances.
- Stoehr pitched scoreless, hit-less ball while facing the minimum.

Franciscan Lineup
Holden Armstrong LF, Devon Ashcraft SS, Peter Falconite 2B, Wade Stoehr 3B, Samuel Tyler CF, John Hall 1B, John Nemmers DH, Nicholas Peffer RF, David Ferroni C, & Pitching - Sebastian Juarez
How It Happened
Game two would be a bullpen day for the Barons with
Sebastian Juarez taking the ball for his first collegiate start of his career. The Barons would give him a 1-0 lead in the first, and after putting up a zero in the bottom of the first, he would allow a pair of runs to score in the second.
Coach
Rick Carver would then go to
Shae Mummey, and that decision would pay off in a big way. Mummey would be nearly un-hittable in his best appearance to date for the freshman. The Franciscan offense would also get going with four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 6-2 edge.
Wade Stoehr would get the ball for the second game in a row in the seventh. He would face the minimum once again to close the door and give the Barons the doubleheader sweep.
With that win, Head Coach
Rick Carver reached 500 wins over his 33-year career as a collegiate Head Coach.
At the Plate
- Stoehr, Armstrong, and Ferroni each had two hits.
- Armstrong stole a pair of bases, and Peffer stole one.
- Falconite had four RBIs.
On the Mound
- Juarez pitched two innings with three strikeouts and two earned runs.
-
Shae Mummey earned his first collegiate win with four shutout innings of work.
- Stoehr pitched the clean seventh to close it out.
