How It HappenedÂ
The Women's soccer team began their year in the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. They faced a very tough Penn State Behrend squad. Dill recorded 18 saves in the 0-4 loss setting a new program single game record. This year's squad has a nice mix of veteran players who have played in two conference championship games and some young talent seeing significant play. However, most of the returning talent is in the midfield. The defensive line loses their long time leader in Postage, and the forwards have a chasm to fill to replace the goal-scoring of J. Rubino and T. Davidson. Those two factors mean big changes in roles for the team. It will be a learning process to see which one of these women advanced their game and steps up to the opportunity as the season progresses and we get closer to conference play.Â
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will start game two of the season just 24 hours after the start of the first. They will take on Fredonia in Erie today at 5:00 p.m. The Barons are 1-0 all-time against the Blue Devils. In 2022, they played each other in Erie with the Barons coming out on top by a score of 3-2. Juliana Rubino opened up the scoring in the first half, and Claire Salyer and Tania Davidson scored late to secure the win in that matchup. Fredonia will have even less time to rest, as they played John Carroll at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
