How It HappenedÂ
The season opening tournament last weekend showed what everyone was expecting, a transition period for the young forwards and midfielders as they find their role in the new Baron offense after the stout class of 2023 left behind. Elise Winogradoff has begun to find her stride in her role. Elise had a team-high 3 shots with 2 SOG. The Barons had less opportunities on offense than the opposition, but made each chance count. Even though they were outshot 19-8, they were even with SOG. Wieszczek made her one opportunity at the net count and scored the Barons only goal off an assist from Anni Winogradoff.Â
The limited time on the attacking end led to an organized defense and an opposing goaltender ready for the Barons attack. The constant pressure on our defensive end often creates a little bit of chaos with defenders and goalkeepers not in perfect position. This led to Wooster finding the back of the net on 4 of their 5 SOG.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Wieszczek's goal is the third of her career.
-Dill recorded one save
-Freshmen defender Catherine DeWolf recorded the first shot of her career
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will host Mount Union on Saturday at Trinity Health System Field at 3:30 for their home opener of the 2024 season. Franciscan is in search of their first win all-time against them, as they are 0-2 through two meetings. Last year, the Purple Raiders scored with 13 seconds remaining to take a 3-2 win. Tania Davidson and Juliana Rubino found the back of the net for the Barons in that game. This will be the third PAC team that Mount Union has played, as they have played Waynesburg and Chatham to start the season.
