How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball made the short trip north to Geneva on Saturday in hopes of breaking their losing skid. They gave the Golden Tornadoes all they could handle, as this one was tied going into the fourth quarter before the home team pulled away.
Maria McCallen broke Head Coach
Iliana Spoelman's record for most points in a game in program history with 34 in a historic day for the sophomore.
The first half was very back and forth with seven lead changes in the opening twenty minutes of play.
Maria McCallen got her day going with six first quarter points, but she was just getting started. In the second quarter,
Abbigail Jannuzi got hot with seven of the Barons' first 11 points to tie this game up at 26-26. The Barons then went on an 8-0 run with five of those points coming from McCallen to take an eight point edge with a little over four minutes left in the half. Geneva answered behind Emily Garvin's strong offensive play to tie it back up and regain a one point lead at the half.
Melnyk sparked the Barons out of the half with eight points in the third quarter. The defense contained Geneva as well, as the Barons won this quarter by one to take a tie game into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Geneva opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 to take a lead that they did not relinquish.
Maria McCallen put the exclamation point on a prolific day with 13 points in the final frame, but the Golden Tornadoes secured victory 85-77.

Up Next
Franciscan will return home to take on Saint Vincent on Wednesday evening. The Barons are looking to snap an eight-game skid to the Bearcats with a win on Wednesday night. Saint Vincent currently sits in the playoffs if the season ended today, but Franciscan looks to play the role of spoiler and climb their way back into the playoff picture.
