How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan hosted the top team in the PAC South division, Chatham, on Tuesday evening at Finnegan Fieldhouse. It was a little bit of Deja vu for the Barons as the match was quite similar to their first matchup in September.
Logan Hickey had a massive day with 25 kills, but the Barons fell in four sets.Â
The Barons controlled the opening set from the start, but the Cougars battled back to tie it up late.
Logan Hickey had her best set of the night with 10 kills and a .471 attack percentage. Two of those kills gave the Barons the 28th and 29th points to secure the set.
Set two looked like more of the same, as the Baron jumped out to a 9-3 lead. They held a 14-11 lead, but the Cougars rallied with three consecutive points to tie it up at 14-14. The score was tied eight times in this set, including 21-21. Chatham then scored four points in a row to tie the match at one set apiece.
The Chatham attack stayed in control for the final two sets. They added 16 kills in the third and 17 in the fourth to have 67 over the four sets. They had four players with 10+ kills, as a balanced attack led the Cougars to a win. They now have a commanding lead in the South Division with an 8-1 conference record.
