How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan was able to get back in the win column at Waynesburg on Thursday evening. The Barons lost the opening set, but then played very well in winning the next three sets.
Logan Hickey had six kills in the opening set to lead the charge, but the Barons did not have an answer for the Yellow Jackets' offense. They tallied 17 kills with an impressive .273 attack percentage to win the first set by a score of 25-20.
The Barons rallied quickly in the second, as they served well and improved their blocking scheme. They jumped out to an early lead, and then a late 5-1 run gave them separation to clinch the set at 25-16.
The Barons had all the momentum in the third. Waynesburg did not respond well, as they had 12 attacking errors in the third set.
Caroline Linklater and
Mary Jean Cadman each had a pair of kills, as the Barons were in total control to win this set by nine points again.
Tessa Miller and
Sarah Clyde continued their strong days in the middle for the Barons in the final set with their offense and defense. Updike and Hickey each had service aces, as the Barons were in total control to close out the Yellow Jackets.Â

Franciscan will head to Geneva on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Golden Tornadoes. The Barons beat them at home last season, but they are in search of their first win in Beaver Falls in program history. Geneva is off to a slow start, but they stunned Grove City with a five-set win on Wednesday night.
