How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Basketball played Penn State Greater Allegheny for the first time since 2008 in their 2025-26 home opener. The Barons proved their dominance early in this one, as they led from start to finish. They tallied a program record 99 points with their largest scoring margin in program history as well.
In her first start of the season,
Abbigail Jannuzi was the hot hand in the first half. She made her first five shots, including a trio of treys. She reached her career high in scoring in the opening half with 22 points to lead all scorers.
Magdalen Simon and
Caroline Reedy came off the bench for the first time this season, and they did not seem to mind. They each scored 10 points in the opening half. The Barons forced 21 turnovers and scored 61 points to hold a 45-point lead at the half.
The Barons cooled off a little bit in the second half, but scoring 61 again was a tall task. They scored 20 points in the third quarter, while still applying very strong defense. That was with the starters seeing limited minutes. All 12 Barons that saw the floor registered a point, as
Josephine Camardo was the 12th to score in the fourth quarter. The Barons had a few too many turnovers in the fourth, but that would be nitpicking, as they scored 99 points in the emphatic win.
Inside the Numbers
- Januzzi led the Barons with 26 points.
- Biasutto recorded a double double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
- 55-point scoring margin was the most since the Barons beat Christendom by 51 in 2010.
- The Barons set the program scoring record last season with 89 points at Thiel, but they were able to shatter that mark today.
- 32 turnovers caused was also a program record, as the Barons tied a program record with 20 steals.
