How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Basketball had one of their best first quarters of the season, as they jumped out to a lead over Westminster. Abigail Jannuzi was a big part of the strong opening quarter, as she made the first three, three point-field goals she attempted to give the Barons an 11-9 edge.
Giuliana Biasutto connected on another trey, and
Maria McCallen got hot, as the Barons led 20-15 after 10 minutes of play. The Barons expanded their lead in the second quarter, as they led 29-21 with less than five minutes to play in the second quarter. The Titans went on an 11-1 run to end the quarter and take a 34-31 lead into halftime.
After shooting 40% from the floor in the opening half, the Barons struggled to find the bottom of the net in the second half. The Titans won the third quarter by eight points to take a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter. The Barons put up 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of made free throws from
Helen Leon. That was not enough to come back, as the Titans won 67-52.
Inside the NumbersÂ
- McCallen led the Barons with 18 points, as he was one rebound away from another double double.
- Melnyk pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds, as she was one point away from a double double.
