How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan hosted the La Roche Redhawks at Trinity Health System field yesterday, and after a brief lead from the Redhawks, it was all Barons.Â
This year's unit is a well-balanced offensive attack. That unit was a little slow out of the gate. The Redhawks grabbed a quick goal in the first couple possessions and then a second halfway through the first quarter to have a 2-0 lead. The second goal must've been a wake up, because the Barons answered right back just seven seconds later with a goal from Theresa Lyle. They went on to score two more unanswered goals to take the lead.
Still feeling in the game, the Redhawks mustered a third goal early in the second to tie it 3-3, but the floor fell out for them after that. The Barons went on a 15-0 run. They shut the Redhawks down until the back half of the fourth quarter.
Inside the NumbersÂ
-Gianna Dinoto led the Barons with 9 points and 10 shots on goal
-Theresa Lyle scooped 7 ground balls and had 8 draw controls
-Maria De La Torre had 5 caused turnovers to lead the defensive unit
-Mary Smith made 4 saves
Up Next
Franciscan concludes a stretch of four consecutive home games on Saturday, as they play Allegheny at 1:00 p.m. The Barons are in search of their first win all-time against the Gators, as they have played them four times in the last 12Â seasons. Last season, the Barons lost 21-5 up in Meadville. This will be the PAC opener for the Gators, and they will come into this game with a losing record in a tough, non-conference slate.
