Latrobe, Pa. - For the first time since 2011, the Barons left Latrobe with a win in a hard-fought PAC thriller
Doubles
The Barons fell at #3, as
David Drejza and
Michael Nolan fell 6-4 in a close battle. Their teammates picked them up, as the Barons won the other two matches to earn the 1-0 edge.
Aidan Palladino and
David Bourdelais won their first match at #2 by a score of 6-3, and
Aaron Heinlein and
Christopher Yvars stepped up to the task with a 6-4 win at #1.
Singles
The same six Barons sought after three singles wins to start PAC play 1-0. It did not look good early, as Nolan and Drejza lost at #5 and #6 to give Saint Vincent the lead. Chrsitopher Yvars, reigning PAC Player of the Week, then leveled the score at 2-2 with a straight sets win at #4.
Aaron Heinlein at #2 clutched up with a 7-5, 6-2 win to give the Barons a 3-2 lead. At this point, the final two matches were heading into third sets. Bourdelais battled but fell at #3. That would leave it all up to the veteran,
Aidan Palladino at #1. He lost the first set 7-5, but then he won 6-4 in the second. He then came through clutch with a 6-4 win in the third to give the Barons the win a kick-off PAC play with a win.
The Barons handed the Bearcats their second loss of the season and leveled their record back to .500 at 4-4.
Next Up
Franciscan will remain busy in PAC play, as they will host Grove City on Wednesday at Belleview Courts. The Barons are in search of their first PAC win over the Wolverines, as they have not beat them since 2018 in a non-conference match. This will be the PAC opener for Grove City, who was picked to finish second in the PAC this season.
