How It HappenedÂ
  Franciscan hosted Waynesburg on Wednesday night in their second of two meetings this season. The Barons set the program record for blocks in a game with 13, but the Yellow Jackets were able to escape with the win.Â
  The Barons started slow, as Waynesburg's Kara McFadden had seven early points to give them a lead. The Barons battled back late in the first quarter to set the score at 16-9. The Franciscan offense picked up in the second quarter by scoring 15 points. Melnyk led the way with five points this quarter, as she led the Barons at the half with eight points.
Maria McCallen was the spark on the defensive end with four blocks in the opening half. The Barons tied their season-high of nine team blocks in just the first 20 minutes of play. That led to a halftime score of 31-24 with Waynesburg holding the lead.
  The Yellow Jackets were able to expand the lead in the third quarter with an early, hot start. They had their highest scoring quarter with 22 points. The Barons came out shooting in the fourth, as they had their best quarter of the night. They scored 25 points while cutting into the deficit and making it a close one till the end.Â

Franciscan will remain at home to take on Hiram on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Barons are 0-4 all-time against the Terriers, but this will be the first time, that the game will be a PAC contest. Hiram beat the Barons last season by a score of 69-57. Four Barons scored in double figures, but they were not able to come back from a 24-9 deficit after the opening quarter of play.Â
