Franciscan women's volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to the Grove City Wolverines Saturday afternoon on the road. With the result, the Barons are now 13-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
How It Happened
The first set had the Barons score the first three points, and the squad continuously held a lead of 3 or 4 points most of the opening set. Down 16-13, Grove City scored the next four to have its first lead, only for the Barons to score five straight to go up 21-17, thanks to a few kills by
Logan Hickey. The hosts then went on a 8-2 run to win the opening the set, including breaking a 23-23 deadlock.
Set two, like set one, had a couple of lead changes, with neither team able to secure a lead of five or more points. A 67-2 run for Franciscan made a 11-7 Grove City lead turn into a 14-13 Baron advantage, before each team swapped one-point leads. After another
Logan Hickey kill tied it at 22, three straight Wolverine points followed to put the visitors in a 2-0 set hole.
Kills by
Anna Guard,
Caroline Linklater, and
Therese Heisler paced the Barons early on in the third set, leading to a 11-11 tie. However, Grove City took control from there, with no more further ties after a 10-3 Wolverine run. The Barons scored three straight late while on the brink, but one more kill by the hosts led to a 25-19 set win and a 3-0 match sweep.
