How It HappenedÂ
For the first time in history the sister schools of Franciscan and St. Francis met on the soccer turf. The Barons lost the first meeting 2-4 after two late goals by the Red Wolves.Â
The women's Red Wolves team has many D1 holdovers on their roster. This made an exciting and unique opportunity for the Barons to go up against athletes of that caliber. In the first half, control of the ball flipped back and forth, but the Red Wolves were the first to strike and went up 2-0 early.  Â
The Barons answered back with remarkable efforts from
Michelle Lopez and
Lizzy Craig. Each of them made highlight reel worthy efforts to beat multiple defenders and score a goal.Â
The Barons went into the half break tied 2-2, but ceded two goals in the second half to fall 2-4.
During the declassification process St. Francis is ineligible for postseason play, so the result of this game had no bearing on the PAC standings. The Barons hold their clinch to the 4 seed and will play the #5 seed Waynesburg at home this Saturday for the PAC Quarterfinals.
